Competition Licensing

If you are planning to race with us, you will need to meet the licensing requirements of our sanctioning body, NASA. A NASA Provisional or National License is REQUIRED to participate as a driver in any NASA-VA santionced road race event.

Drivers will fall into two basic categories, those that already have a competition license, and those that are currently without a racing license.

If you already have a racing license from a NASA approved sanctioning body, follow these steps to secure your NASA National Competition license.

  • Print the Competition Licensing Form - complete the last section (waiver)
  • Include all necessary documentation (listed on form)
  • Mail to:

If you do not have a racing license, there are several ways to obtain a NASA National Competition license:

  • You may complete one successful NASA-VA HPDE event (Drivers Ed) in their advanced run group (6 sessions over two days is considered as an event). During this you may request observation for your NASA provisional license. Observation may be as few as three successful observed sessions. You may then request a NASA Regional Provisional Race license. It should be noted that the amount of time it takes you to get into NASA's advanced run group will vary depending on your experience and skills.
  • If you do not have a racing license but DO have approximately a year of solo experience (signed off to drive w/o an instructor) at PCA Drivers Education events you may attend one of the NASA competition licensing schools for license evaluation.
  • If you do not have a racing license but are an Instructor for PCA DE events, you may ask to be evaluated for a provisional license during practice sessions at the beginning of a race weekend or the HPDE also being held that weekend.
