Super Cup Details

The purpose of this series is to create an affordable and fun "one make" series in a skilled, clean, sportsmanlike racing environment. The intent is to allow afront engine Porsches to participate in a season long race series with the opportunity for competitive door to door racing.

To that end, a modified 13/13 driver conduct rule will be used and enforced. All cars will meet all the safety and licensing requirements of the sanctioning body holding the event. Most events are NASA sanctioned events and important differences in car safety requirements include a roll cage, belts and window nets that are current SFI (2 years) or FIA (5 years) approved, steering wheel lock disabled, and window net attached to interior of car. TECHNICAL INSPECTIONS

Scaling may be done on any car in the field between the end of a qualifying session and the end of the subsequent race. A variance of 10 lbs will be allowed however should a car be deemed underweight, it will be allowed a "roll off, roll on" to minimize scale position variance from final reading. A disqualification after a qualifying session will place the racer at the back of the grid in ascending order of pounds under minimum. A disqualification after a race will be noted as DQ in the results and no championship points awarded. All drivers finishing below the disqualified driver will then be moved up one spot in the finishing order.

Cup officials reserve the right to have a car dynoed (at the expense of the Series) during a race weekend if the car has won one or more races. The results will remain confidential. As required by the Class Director, competitors will submit cars for dyno testing that will produce sheets from three separate “reproducible” Dyno pulls with SAE correction, of which the highest horsepower numbers of the three will be used. Dynamometer tests must be conducted on a DynoJet Model 248 or 224.

It is the responsibility of the competitor to be within submitted horsepower levels. To ensure fairness, an appointed official or an approved technician will operate any cars being inspected on the chassis dynamometer. Prior to the chassis dynamometer inspection the competitor may top off any fluids needed to ensure the engine and drivetrain are not damaged during testing. The fluids must be added with a NASA Technical Inspector present and no other modifications or adjustments may be made to the car. If a car is tested by Officials, and found to have a higher horsepower rating than allowed, the competitor will be disqualified for the last official session whether that be qualifying, a qualifying race, or a race. A competitor will be allowed to modify the car for the next qualifying or race session. Another dyno testing session will be permitted to demonstrate compliance with the 944 Cup horsepower limits at the expense of the car owner.

Cup officials may conduct technical inspections of a car anytime during an event. If a car is found to have violations, the driver will be given the opportunity to correct the violations or add additional weight, as appropriate, before the next qualifying session or race. In addition, sanctions can be imposed by Cup officials for flagrant technical violations of the preparation rules.

POINTS

Per Section 22.4 of the NASA CCR, multiple drivers may declare their intent to earn points cooperatively as a team. Points earned by the team in a Cup race will be shown in the standings under the name of the team. Points may not be awarded for races in which the total entries for Cup and Super Cup classes combined is less than seven one week prior to the first race of the round. The results of the number of races exceeding ten in a season, of the driver's choice, will be discarded to allow for those entrants who cannot make every the race or have an early breakdown. In other words, the drivers top ten finishes, regardless of number of races completed, will be used to determine the championship. Violation of the eligibility rules, including weight requirements or driver conduct, will result in forfeiture of any and all points earned in a race. Points earned in previous races stay with the driver regardless of the car driven in subsequent races. A minimum of half the races must be completed during the course of a season for a driver to be eligible for year end prizes and trophies.

There is an important change for 2008 in the scoring for each 944 Cup Regional Championship. Racers participating in the 944 Cup Nationals may include their cumulative results from the Championship weekend as one race score for the Regional Championship. At Nationals, there exists two qualifying races and the Championship race. The finishing positions of all races will be averaged, with equal weighting, to determine the overall position within the field. This position will then be awarded points as one race on the regular 30 point scale as detailed above. Any ties in the final average position will be broken using the results of the Championship race.

Should a tie exist at the end of the season, the following procedure will be used to determine finishing order.

1 - Total number of podium finishes throughout the year
2 - Total points including all dropped races
3 - Most number of points races completed
4 - Best head-to-head record
5 - Fastest combined lap time for head-to-head races
